Evidence-based CAM: State of the Science of Chiropractic, Naturopathic and Traditional East Asian Medicine: SOLD OUT Organizers: Heather Zwickey, Roni Evans, Cyndy Long, and Ryan Milley
Description: As integrative medicine grows, medical care teams more frequently include MDs, NDs, LAcs, DCs, and others. In order for integrative teams to function well and to aid referrals, physicians should be aware of the research base in a variety of disciplines. This workshop will introduce participants to landmark studies in chiropractic, naturopathic, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, highlight current research in these disciplines, and identify new research directions and appropriate methodologies for studying these fields. The workshop is designed for MDs, NDs, DCs, LAcs, DOs, PhDs, and anyone interested in research in these fields. Description: This workshop will introduce clinical hypnosis as a therapeutic intervention in routine daily clinical practice. The emphasis will be to demonstrate the ease of integration of this method in procedural sedation and pain management through case scenario discussions and experiential learning.
Health Coaching: State of the Science Organizers: Karen Lawson, Karen Calfas, Ruth Wolever, David Eisenberg Organization: National Consortium for Credentialing of Health and Wellness Coaches, Research Task Force Description: This session will provide participants with the state of the field of Health Coaching from a scientific perspective, with an emphasis on definition, clinical applications, and state of existing research. In addition, there will be a discussion of current research issues and plans for the future from the leaders of the Research Task Force of the National Consortium for Credentialing of Health and Wellness Coaches.

Systematic Review Research Methods Training: Focus on CAM Organization: Cochrane Collaboration Complementary Medicine Field (at University of Maryland) Description: This workshop will provide CAM researchers with knowledge relevant to preparing and interpreting systematic reviews and meta-analyses of CAM therapies.
Fostering Empathy: A Hands-On Training for Healthcare Professionals: SOLD OUT Organizer: Melanie Neumann, Orit Karnieli-Miller, Hadass Goldblatt, Diethard Tauschel, Friedrich Edelhäuser, Gabriele Lutz, Christian Scheffer Description: This workshop will provide a practical, hands-on training experience to teach empathy to health professionals based on a German-Israeli study. The format will be a combination of didactic approaches and a number of experiential exemplar practices and exercises. This workshop is designed to help participants get an idea of what clinical empathy is, how to find one’s own path toward empathic understanding of patients, how to reflect on empathy, and how to translate the training experience into practice. |
