ACCME Credit for MD/DOs and Other Professions*

 

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine and the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine. The OHSU School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
 

Credit 

OHSU School of Medicine, Division of CME, designates this live activity for a maximum of 24 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  The Pre-Congress Workshops are included in the 24 credit hour total.  A maximum of 6 credit hours are associated with the pre-congress workshops.  Attendance at the standard Congress qualifies for a maximum 18 credit hours.
 

*What other professions can claim ACCME AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM?

  • Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses: For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education).  For the purposes of re-licensure the Oregon State Board of Nursing accepts AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM for attendance at structured learning activities offered by organizations (in this case: OHSU, Division of CME) accredited by the ACCME. (OAR 851-050-0142).
  • Physician Assistant: The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) states that the AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM are acceptable for continuing medical education requirements for recertification.
  • Certified Nurse Midwife: The American College of Nurse Midwives has granted reciprocity status for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTMissued by providers accredited by the ACCME and relevant to midwifery. 

 

Many other disciplines including but not limited to researchers, PharmD’s, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, and social workers request credit memos for re-licensure or recertification.  Many societies and credentialing bodies accept the AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM as equivalent CE or CEU as long as the topic is in the applicants field or discipline. However, it is advisable that if an individual is unsure whether their attendance can be used towards certification or re-licensure they should check with their governing body.
